VW MK1 STAGE 1 PORTED INTAKE MANIFOLD

Why the VW MK1(1976-1984) intake manifolds need porting:

  1. As Noted in Greg Raven's "VW Performance Handbook" the intake manifold is the biggest single intake restriction of the engine setup.

  2. The more air each induction cycle can feed the engine the more power it will make. Stage I porting the intake manifold can feed the engine 10% more air than a stock non ported one.
  3. Equal flow between each runner ensures that each cylinder is receiving the same volume of air. In the air flow tests below you can see that the stock MK1 intake manifolds air flow between runner ports is not consistent. Consistency is important with CIS fueled cars, as the injection system can't tell how much fuel each cylinder needs - it can only tell how much all cylinders needs together. 
  4. Throttle body mount is opened up so larger 52mm throttle body can be installed(Common swap from A2, Audi's,Neuspeed cars)

STAGE III  PORTED MK1 INTAKE MANIFOLD ​

 

Stage III  Ported MK1 Intake Manifold - Porting begins with porting the intake to Stage I ported intake manifold level, balanced flow between each runner then cut off the top of the plenum and port the runners and the inside of the short turn radius area.

The Stage 1 and Stage 3 intake manifolds are gasket matched to the factory gasket.  The Stage 3 and Stage 1 ported intakes both fit the same stock gasket.  Customers with modified cylinder heads may send a gasket template so that the manifold can be ported to match.

BIG BORE CIS LOWER AIR BOX COLD AIR INTAKE KIT

All New 3D printed CIS lower air box with 3" inlet vs sock 2.25".   We use the stock location under the radiator to connect to the front of the car so the risk of hydro-lock is no more than a stock factory setup.  All high temp components used in construction.  Kit includes a 3D printed lower elbow that replaces the factory under radiator plastic elbow.  A 3" hose with clamps and a replacement CIS lower air box included.  The factory lower air box  2.25" inlet is removed and a new 3" 3D printed inlet grafted on.  The kit fits in the factory location, with no modifications to CIS needed.
